What is a Contract Bed?

A contract bed is no ordinary domestic bed. They are specifically designed for commercial use and they meet strict fire safety and quality regulations.

Typically, contract beds are used in hotels, B&B’s, hostels and educational environments such as universities.

To ensure the beds are up to sufficient standards for commercial use, they go through tough testing procedures. No bed that fails these tests will be legally allowed to be used in a commercial setting.

All beds must adhere to the BS EN 5971 (smouldering cigarette test) and BS EN 5972 (match test), as well as the BS 6807 (flame retardant test). The BS 6807 is more commonly known as the Source 5 or Crib 5 test.

These tests also apply to the mattresses that commercial settings use as well, not just the bed frame itself.

What establishments must use hotel contract beds?

Any commercial setting that is using beds for their guests/customers must buy and use contract beds that have passed the various tests mentioned above.

Contract beds are not just for luxury 5-star hotels. Below is a list of establishments legally required to use contract beds and mattresses (please be aware this list is not exhaustive):

  • Hotels
  • B&Bs
  • Guest Houses
  • Hostels
  • Pubs
  • Boarding Schools
  • Halls of Residence
  • Residential Homes
  • Holiday Camps

What type of hotel contract beds are available?

Hotel contract beds come in a variety of styles and sizes with Divan Bases and Zip & Link variants being the most popular within the industry.

Contract Divan Bases

Contract divan bases are a complete package, available in a large variety of bed sizes, mattress types and storage combinations.

We boast one of the most solid bed bases in the hotel contract bed industry, using 18mm MFC sides and ends, creating a very robust and durable bed base.

Traditional divan bases use a framed structure which has weak points, but our bases have a completely solid shell to enhance the lifespan and durability.

Each bed base comes with a mattress anti-slip top surface to help keep your mattress in place.

Every base also has globe castors installed to help with manoeuvring the bed when needed.

Our entire range of divan bases have a variety of storage options available, from single drawers to dual guest bed storage.

Every divan base is a bed base and mattress combo. Our range is vast, giving you enough options to get the right bed for your guests.

The firmness of a mattress is very important for guests, which is why we offer 4 options in this category. Choose from soft, medium, firm and very firm, to help give your guests the best night's sleep possible.

We’re so confident in our contract bed bases, that we offer a 10-year warranty on every single one.

Contract Zip and Link Beds

Equally as popular are our contract zip and link beds. This versatile and adaptable bed is a fantastic option for any accommodation provider.

These beds have been seamlessly designed to bring together two or more bases and mattresses to give hoteliers the flexibility to efficiently rearrange rooms at a moment's notice.

The simple zip down the side of the mattress and the brass locking bars helps create a bed that you wouldn’t even know could be split into two.

Similar to our divan bases, our zip and link beds also share the same manufacturing process - a solid 18mm MFC solid shell around the entire base.

All our zip and link options come with a huge range of storage options too, to help you get the most out of your space.

Once again, all our bases here are a base and mattress combo, with enough choice so you can provide the very best for your guests.

Contract Bunk Beds

It’s not just luxury hotels that need crib 5 bed frames. Hostels and student accommodation also need to adhere to strict rules when it comes to providing places to sleep. All our bunk beds, of course, meet the strict rules on fire safety.

Bunk beds are a fantastic solution to tight spaces, allowing you to make use of the limited space you may have.

Contract Folding Beds

For even more of a space-saving solution, why not try folding beds. Each folding bed can be folded and rolled away within minutes.

Each folding bed comes with a simple but effective headboard and easy glide castors.

There’s a choice of memory foam, pocket spring or waterproof mattresses to go with your folding bed, as well as choosing between three sizes; small single (2’6 x 6’3), single (3’0 v 6’3) and small double (4’0 x 6’3).

Contract Student Beds

Alternatively, we also offer contract student beds. Lightweight but robust, to within heavy usage.

Our range is ideal for;

  • Halls of residence
  • Schools
  • Landlords
  • Universities

All industry-standard sizes (single, small double, double and kingsize) are all available and of course, they all adhere to BS7177 Crib 5 fire standards so you can buy with confidence.

Contract Sofa Beds

Sofa beds are a popular option for those wishing to squeeze in more sleeping space into tighter areas - or change a living space into a sleeping space at a moment's notice.

We offer a large range of colourful contemporary and traditional styled sofa beds to help you find the right sofa bed for your current interior design.

Choose from either one, two or three-seater sofa bed options as well as the type of mattress that will be housed inside the sofa (open coil spring, memory foam or pocket spring).

Why should I buy a hotel contract bed?

Aside from the sheer quality of hotel contract beds, if you own a business with bedrooms on the premises, buying a Crib 5 compliant bed frame and mattress is not a choice, it’s a requirement by law.

You will be putting your guests and yourself at risk should you fail to supply Crib 5 bed frames. Your insurance will be invalid in the event of a fire.
